Camping in the Thar desert

As darkness set in, the bitter cold quickly gripped you and you quickly joined the bonfire. You feel so cold inside the campfire that you can’t even move outside, it becomes more severe.

Jaisalmer camping is a must-do experience. This overnight or day trip is offered by both large and small travel agencies every day. While it is a good idea to bargain, the rates are the same. It shouldn’t cost more than 1400-1500 INR depending on the type of camp you choose. You should decide where you want to camp, and discuss with organizers the cost.

You don’t need to make reservations ahead of time as this requires an upfront payment. If your plans change, you might lose your money.

Jaisalmer: Night Under the Stars

The Thar Desert, India’s 18th largest desert, is also the country’s most populous. It is found in 5 Indian countries, from the north to west. The Thar Desert National Park in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, is the most mature.

It was fun to ride, and the terrain changed drastically as we reached the desert. The foliage was sparse and hot, and there was an area on each side of the road that was dominated only by two tones of brown: dark and light and some green. The Thar desert, which forms a natural border between Jaisalmer and Pakistan in pieces, is a top place to visit in Jaisalmer. We stopped to take photos. It was my first experience in the desert, and I was unfamiliar with geography. We passed many homes in the Thar desert, most of which were built in traditional Rajasthani style. These homes are simple and elegant.

We were soon on the beach, as the road narrowed. It was an exciting lift that took us to the mouths of the beach stacks.

Night camp

After the cultural presentation, we were all very happy and full of energy. After finishing our dinner, we prepared for an evening filled with fun stories and laughter. Some of us prefer to sing or play music while others share eerie stories based on personal experiences. Some of the most absurd “genuine” stories were shared, from the dead moving through night to the faces being burnt by an ethereal force. The group shrieked as only one of us could frighten the others.

The night was much calmer after that and most of us sat silently admiring the sky.

I sat down on the blanket, cocking my head backwards to check if there were any spots that weren’t cover with sparkling white dots.

Two shooting stars were visible in the star-studded sky. I was able to see them, but they weren’t as fast than in Karan Johar movies. A quick blink would have you miss it. Several members of my team saw three! It wouldn’t have been cooler. I would have stayed up all night if it hadn’t. I fell asleep while stargazing, and wore my gloves and cap.

It was 6:01 AM when I awoke to see daylight. Unheroic stripes slowly appeared across the sky while we sipped on mugs full of poha and chai. After another round of printing sessions with the camels it was time for us to say goodbye to the desert, and to the stunning golden lookouts.

It was an unforgettable experience camping under the stars. I tried my best to capture these moments with filmland and words. You can only see it all in its entirety if you visit Jaisalmer to experience it firsthand.
